MILWAUKEE – The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men’s basketball team will open Horizon League play on the road according to the conference schedule released today by the League office. Milwaukee Head Coach Rob Jeter’s squad will play its League home opener on January 9 versus longtime rival Green Bay in a contest to be televised live on ESPNU.

Conference play kicks off January 2 when the Panthers travel to Cleveland State before taking the short trip to Detroit two days later (Jan. 4). Milwaukee will make its fourth national television appearance of the 2014-15 season when it welcomes defending regular-season champion Green Bay to UWM Panther Arena January 9. That contest will be carried live on ESPNU.

The Green Bay game opens up a three-game homestand for the Panthers, who will also entertain Youngstown State (Jan. 14) and Wright State (Jan. 20) during that stretch. Road games at Oakland (Jan. 22) and Valparaiso (Jan. 26) precede a seven-game run that will see Milwaukee play five contests at the friendly confines of UWM Panther Arena. UIC (Jan. 29) and Detroit (Jan. 31) come to town before the calendar turns to February for the final month of the regular season.

Milwaukee heads north to Green Bay on February 5 for the first time since stunning the top-seeded Phoenix in last year’s Horizon League Championship semifinal round. The Panthers host Oakland (Feb. 10) and Valparaiso (Feb. 15) before going on the road for three of their final four games of the 2014-15 campaign.

The season-closing stretch opens with a short trip to the Windy City to face UIC (Feb. 19) before the team closes out the home portion of the schedule by hosting Cleveland State (Feb. 22). Milwaukee wraps up the regular season with its longest road trip of the year as it ventures to Ohio for showdowns with Wright State (Feb. 26) and Youngstown State (Feb. 28).

Milwaukee is coming off of a 21-win season and its fourth appearance in the NCAA Tournament as a Division I program. Jeter welcomes back three starters: forwards Matt Tiby (12.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg) and Austin Arians (11.1 ppg, 3.5 rpg) and guard Steve McWhorter (7.8 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 4.0 apg).

The Panthers will make four appearances on the ESPN family of networks during the 2014-15 season. Milwaukee’s games at Auburn (Nov. 14) at Arkansas (Dec. 22) and versus Green Bay (Jan. 9) will be televised live on ESPNU, while the Dec. 10 meeting with Wisconsin will be carried on ESPN2.
