Beyond Van Gogh exceeds expectations for the Wisconsin Center
Months ago, as we looked to secure newly imagined events for the Wisconsin Center with the uncertainty of COVID still lingering in our minds, we discovered “Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience,” which was not only a stunning visual experience, but was designed in the age of COVID with guests’ safety in mind. The exhibit opened to the public at the Wisconsin Center on July 9, and it has exceeded all of our expectations, including my own. Before it even opened, the immersive experience sold more than 65,000 tickets and was the highest grossing event in the history of the Wisconsin Center.
Throughout the experience, more than 300 of Van Gogh’s paintings are brought to life in vibrant, digital color. Designed by French-Canadian Creative Director Mathieu St-Arnaud and his team at Normal Studio in Montreal, guests are taken on a journey where they get to know Van Gogh and read about his life in the Letters Room, begin to immerse themselves in the Waterfall Room then truly step into his work in the Immersive Room. Immersive is set to a symphonic score and is a truly phenomenal, all-encompassing exhibit. Whether for a family outing, date night, company event or solo journey, all are welcome to come to the Wisconsin Center to appreciate the beauty of Van Gogh’s work in this new way.
I was bullish about Beyond Van Gogh from the beginning, but seeing the exhibit’s massive success during its grand opening really showed me how hungry we are to get back to doing things. Due to the demand I’m proud to share that we just announced an extension of the residency for an additional six weeks, now running through October 31.
A captivating experience for the senses is just what our community needed. As the exhibit opened in parallel with the Kelsey Montague art installation, it created twice the excitement for art at the Wisconsin Center District. The simultaneous unveiling of two uniquely distinct art features perfectly depicts how we are building more pride at the Wisconsin Center District, and building more excitement for what is to come when the Wisconsin Center expansion breaks ground later this year.
Our city has a lot to be excited about these days, and I am so proud that our team at the Wisconsin Center and our partners at Beyond Van Gogh are playing a part in it.
